Stable, affordable housing is a foundational requirement for mental health and addiction recovery. The Rent Supplement Program helps people live in private-market housing while paying rent geared to their income, reducing the risk of homelessness and housing instability.
When combined with clinical and housing-related supports, rent supplements help prevent relapse, hospital use, and shelter entry while promoting independence and long-term community stability—at significantly lower cost than institutional or emergency responses.
